Black History Month Reflection & DUKAPAQ Recognition
POST DATE: Saturday, February 28th, 2026
As we wrap up Black History Month today, I’ve been reflecting on this year’s theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations,” and the reminder that we are truly standing on the shoulders of giants.
Three years ago, I wrote about this legacy, especially the influence of Black history on Black owned banking institutions and modern fintechs such as DUKAPAQ in my The Black Wall Street Times article (link below).
I’m deeply grateful to the City of Houston Mayor’s Office and the team at 40 Acre Conference and Rice Business for recognizing DUKAPAQ during this year’s Black History Month celebration, which focused on AI and its growing impact on society.
I’m honored that DUKAPAQ was highlighted as one of Houston’s AI startups to watch and selected as the winner of this year’s AI pitch competition. Our AI-native platform is built to help merchants across the U.S. and globally gain a competitive edge.
This recognition is humbling, and I’m grateful to receive it in honor of MLK Day and Black History Month.
Fun fact: The award was personally hand-signed by Michael V. Roberts, a Black billionaire based in St. Louis, Missouri, and one of America’s leading business figures.
